Desperate Housewives (of the bible)

There’s a lot of mention of desperate housewives in the bible being in the bible. Most of them are in the same breath with prostitutes and the such. When I was doing my morning devotional Friday morning (almost a week ago) I came across what I presumed to be biblical desperate housewives. I just thought this was too cute not to share. So let’s read 1 Timothy 5

11As for younger widows, do not put them on such a list. For when their sensual desires overcome their dedication to Christ, they want to marry. 12Thus they bring judgment on themselves, because they have broken their first pledge. 13Besides, they get into the habit of being idle and going about from house to house. And not only do they become idlers, but also gossips and busybodies, saying things they ought not to. 14So I counsel younger widows to marry, to have children, to manage their homes and to give the enemy no opportunity for slander. 15Some have in fact already turned away to follow Satan.

Maybe your asking how can a widow be a housewife. I’m asking you to just go with it, lol. I live in an Army town and I’ve seen far too many instances of this very thing happening. Unfortunately when you have military deployed you either get cheating wives and girlfriends, or widowed wives who are in some ways thankful for being widowed so they can reap the government benefits.

Either case it still stands true today that young women are being widowed left and right still sensuality has taken them over to the case of losing all senses to be taken care of. It is our job as the church to care for the orphans and widows. Paul says he councils these ladies to remarry. To pick up their heavy hearts and move on in life. If not they’ll eventually become gossips and busybodies at no business saying the things they shouldn’t be saying.

There is still hope and time. We as a church have to not let verse 15 happen which says some have in fact already turned away to follow Satan. We must and shall do all we can to win the hearts of the widows and orphans by serving them in their needs right where they are at.
