Evangelism Is Not Terrorism

Yeah, I’m going there. I was set back by this statement yesterday at church. Pastor Carlo made it very clear that we are not terrorists out to destroy someone in the name of religion. It’s not our intention to damage with the good news of Christ. In fact it’s quite opposite. It’s life-giving. Jesus IS the way, truth, and life!

Standing on the corner with a sign yelling at the crowd through a bull horn is not damaging to you, it’s damaging to our faith. So this is no considered terrorism. It’s really just considered annoying. Nobody wants to come to a faith where the congregants are annoying and put off. NOBODY!

So what is evangelism? Simple. It’s telling others about the good news; the gospel. Jesus Christ, the son of God, came to experience life fully as a human, and since we are eternally separated from God through sin but with a blood covering we can have eternal relations with Him, Jesus gave himself up for our redemption, rose on the third day defeating death and the grave and our only move is to accept that and live in that.

That’s the gospel.

Where we tend to get it wrong is, we try to force feed the gospel. We try to cram it down the throat of those who are not ready to accept that. That’s terrorism; terrorizing our faith, damaging Christianity.

The bible clearly states in 1st Corinthians 3:6-7 “that ‘I‘ planted the seed,’you‘ water it, but God has been making it grow. So neither the one who plants nor the one who waters is anything, but only God, who makes things grow.” So what does that mean. It means tell others about the gospel. But allow God to make it grow. IT”S NOT YOUR JOB TO MAKE THINGS GROW!

Quit terrorizing the faith and start evangelizing the faithless.
